The For the Love of Youth (FLY) project is an initiative dedicated to supporting young people in their academic and personal growth. As part of this effort, FLY has created a series of Academic Student Support Learning Sessions, with the first session, "Applying to Post-Secondary," held on February 9th.
The session aimed to guide participants in navigating the post-secondary application process and was attended by 17 individuals, including a parent who mentioned that she needed a refresher on returning to school after a long absence.
During the session, important topics were discussed, such as how high school grades translate into university letter grades, how to sign up for Apply Alberta and create an Alberta student ID, and the importance of seeking financial services. Participants were also provided information about the Low Income Cut Off, which can be found on the Employment and Social Development Canada website.
FLY also promoted its tutoring and mentorship program, where youth can receive one-on-one support from a subject expert in math or science or receive social support and guidance from a mentor. It was emphasized that to be eligible for FLY scholarships; students must be a part of the mentorship and tutoring program, which is essential for monitoring progress and success.
FLY provided a list of essential websites and noted that applications to different institutions might vary. The participants were encouraged to attend the next session, which will focus on scholarships and will take place on February 16th at 6:30 PM.
The "Applying to Post-Secondary" session offered valuable insights and resources to assist attendees in the post-secondary application process. The For The Love of Youth (FLY) project, of which the session is a part, is dedicated to supporting young people in their educational and personal development. Through its tutoring and mentorship program, FLY aims to provide the necessary support for youth to succeed academically and personally.
